“Prison Break” was the fifth-most-streamed series of the July 29 to Aug. 4 window, during which it was added to Netflix, per Nielsen. The drama series, which ran on Fox from 2005 to 2017, was watched for 758 million minutes across both Netflix and Hulu, where it was previously available.
The week’s chart was led by “House of the Dragon,” which was streamed for 1.3 billion minutes. This was its seventh week in a row coming in above the one billion mark, a feat made more impressive by the fact that the series also airs on HBO’s linear channel, where viewership does not count towards the chart.
Streaming overall was low during this viewing window; only “House of the Dragon” and “Bluey” (No. 2 with 1.2 billion minutes watched) crossed the billion-minute mark, whereas the first week of July had seven titles reach that height. Nielsen notes that the Olympics drew viewership away from series and movies that may have otherwise performed more strongly. Additionally, this was the first time since the start of the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 in 2020 that there were zero streaming originals on the chart, only acquired series plus one acquired film (“Jack Reacher: Never Go Back,” which took No. 10 with 697 million minutes watched across Netflix and Paramount+.)
The rest of the chart was populated by “Grey’s Anatomy” (933 million minutes) and “Family Guy” (910 million minutes) at No. 2 and 3, then after “Prison Break,” there was “Criminal Minds” (745 million minutes), “Bob’s Burgers” (734 million minutes), “All American” (722 million minutes) and “NCIS” (707 million minutes) before “Jack Reacher.”
